あらすじ
1991年のクリスマス、北軽井沢の別荘で開かれる、〈密室の巨匠〉と呼ばれる推理作家の真壁主催の集まりに参加したアリスと火村。
これまで45もの密室トリックを発表し、〈日本のディクスン・カー〉とも称される真壁が夕食の席で、現在最後の密室ものを執筆中であると話す。事実上の引退宣言であった。
だが翌朝、密室状態の部屋で暖炉に頭部を突っ込んだ真壁の死体が発見される。果たして真壁は自身が考案した46番目の密室で死んだのか。
感想
臨床犯罪学者の火村英生と推理作家の有栖川有栖が事件を追う火村シリーズ（作家アリスシリーズ）1作目。典型的な本格的な密室ミステリー、王道ミステリーである。
30年近い前の作品であるが、古さを感じることなく楽しめた。
人物関係も把握しやく、話の流れが分かりやすい。あっと驚く意外なトリックとかはなかったが、導入、事件、推理、結末に至るまで丁寧に作られている。
犯人の動機は意外で驚きました。
This is the first novel in the Himura series (Author Alice series), in which a clinical criminologist, Hideo Himura, and a mystery writer, Arisu Arisugawa, pursue a case. It is a typical and authentic locked-room mystery, a classic mystery. Although it was written almost 30 years ago, I enjoyed it without feeling old. The relationships between the characters are easy to grasp, and the flow of the story is easy to understand. There were no surprising tricks, but the introduction, the case, the reasoning, and the ending were all well described. The motive of the murderer was unexpected and surprising.
