東野圭吾の小説「マスカレード」シリーズの第1作であり、2019年1月に上演し興行収入46億円の大ヒットとなった映画「マスカレード・ホテル」の紹介です。
Masquerade Hotel is a 2019 Japanese crime film making 4.6 billion yen at the box office.
It is the first in the Masquerade series of novels by Keigo Higashino.
あらすじ
現場に不可解な数字の羅列が残される殺人事件が3件発生する。警視庁捜査一課の刑事・新田浩介(木村拓哉)は、数字が次の犯行場所を予告していることを突き止め、ホテル・コルテシア東京で4件目の殺人が起きると断定する。だが、犯人の手掛かりが一向につかめないことから、新田が同ホテルの従業員を装って潜入捜査を行う。優秀なフロントクラークの山岸尚美(長澤まさみ)の指導を受けながら、宿泊客の素性を暴こうとする新田。利用客の安全を第一に考える山岸は、新田に不満を募らせ......。
During an investigation of a serial killer in Tokyo, police are led to a hotel that may be where the next murder will take place. Detective Nitta Kosuke goes undercover and begins working at the front desk of the hotel. Yamagishi Naomi works at the front desk of the hotel. She is selected to train Kosuke for his front desk job. Kosuke is focused on catching the killer, but Naomi prioritizes the safety of the guests.

感想
映画自体の雰囲気の良さ、豪華なホテルの様子や魅力的なキャラクターのおかげで楽しんで見ることができました。
しかし、エピソードひとつひとつの真相が予測できてしまう。犯人もかなり分かりやすいかな。
I enjoyed watching the film because of the great atmosphere, the luxurious hotel and the charming characters. However the problem of the film is that each episode is too predictable. The identification of the killer is also pretty obvious.
気になったのが、映画に出てくるホテル名は「ホテル・コルテシア東京」なのに、タイトル名はなぜ「マスカレードホテル」なのか？
尚美は物語の中でこう語っています。
「ホテルに来る人々はお客様という仮面を被っている、そのことを絶対に忘れてはならない。」
「ホテルマンはお客様の素顔を想像しつつも、その仮面を尊重しなければなりません。ある意味お客様は、仮面舞踏会を楽しむためにホテルに来ておられるのですから。」
つまり、ホテルに来る人々は客という仮面を被っており、ホテルマンもまたそれを覗こうとしないこと、そんなホテルを示唆しています。
「We must never forget that the people who come to a hotel wear the mask of a guest.」
「Hotel staff must respect the guests' masks while imagining their real faces, because in a sense, they come to the hotel to enjoy the masked ball.」
ちなみに、マスカレード masquerade には２つの意味があります。
「仮面舞踏会」もうひとつは「見せかけ」という意味です。
