Metro Rail メトロレールの活用
ロサンゼルスに住んでいたころ、メトロレール(地下鉄)やバスによく乗っていました。
そのときはTAPカードを活用していました。
TAPカードの役割 How does a tap card work?
TAPカードとは、スイカカードのようにお金をチャージしておけば電車やバスを利用することができるICカードです。
メトロレールだけでなく、ビックブルーバスやカルバーシティーバスでも共通で使えます。
TAPカードの正式名称 What is the abbreviation for TAP?
Transit Access Passの略です。
TAPカードはこんな感じです。
TAPカードは各駅の改札口前の販売機で購入可能で、
そこでお金をチャージ( Stored Valueを選んでチャージしたい金額を選択) することができます。
メトロレールの料金 How much does it cost to go on the Metro?
メトロレールは片道どこまで行っても$1.75
めっちゃ安い！
It's pretty cheap!
また２時間以内であれば他の電車、バスへの乗り換えは無料です。
1日乗り放題にする場合は、Metro 1-Day Trip $7がお得です。
他にも1週間パスの7-Day、30日間パスの30-Dayなどがあります。
TAPカードの料金 How much is a TAP card Los Angeles?
TAPカード自体は$1または$2になります。場所によって違うようで、駅構内の券売機だと$1になります。
料金支払いは現金でもクレジットカードでもいいのですが、
現金はもたついていると時間切れで操作が最初からになってしまうのと、
クレジットカードはカードによっては上手く読み込んでくれないことがありました。。
私の場合は毎回のチャージが面倒だったので最初から$20をチャージしてました。
乗るとき/降りるとき Get on/Get off
乗るときにTAPカードを駅の入り口でTAPすれば大丈夫です。
降りるときには必要ありません。
乗り換えるときに新しいバスや電車でTAPすれば2時間以内は乗り換え代が無料になります。
ただしおなじ方角の時だけです。元の場所に戻るときは無効です。
TAPしないとどうなるの? What if I don't tap my card on the TAP target?
TAPは自己申告システムです。
The stations operate on the honor system.
ローカルな駅には駅員は常時おらず、改札口(turnstile)がない駅では
TAP読み取り機が駅の入り口付近に置いてあるだけなので、TAPせずに乗車できてしまいます。
ただ、電車内や降りたところでたまに抜き打ち検査があるので、そのときにTAPしてないことがバレたら処罰されます。
TAPし忘れている場合もあるので注意しましょう。
You must tap your card on the TAP target any time you ride. Onboard fare inspectors can read your card to confirm that you properly tapped. If you fail to tap the bus or rail validator before boarding, you may be cited for fare evasion. So don't forget to TAP!

How to ride the subway in Los Angeles
TAP card is an electronic ticket used on public transport services within Los Angeles Country. You can use your TAP card for transfers among Metro Rail, Big Blue Bus and Culver City Bus. You can buy one of these cards from vending machines at any one of the subway stations and the you load money on the card.
TAP card costs either $1 or $2, depending on where and how it is purchased. It costs $1 in addition to the fare at a train station vending machines. Purchased at regional vendor locations, it costs $2.
An adult ride is a dollar seventy five anywhere you want to go on the subway.
When you get TAP card, you will tap it in the turnstiles to come in if there are turnstiles. If there aren't turnstiles then you'll just tap it on one of these tap readers.
You only have to tap to come in, you don't have to tap to get out.
You can transfer without extra charge within 2 hours transfer period since you first tap your card when boarding a bus or at a Metro Rail station.
